New World’s AFK timer has proven rather easy to fool, and developer Amazon Games has announced a new solution that aims to deal with AFK players who keep trying to avoid it.
Its addition comes as efforts continue to reduce long queue times and provide a smoother experience, following the MMO’s wildly successful launch, but also as a result of community outcry against the AFK players who keep finding ways to trick the game’s timer into thinking they’re actually playing.
“We have seen a lot of frustration around individuals who may be artificially remaining active enough in servers to avoid the automatic AFK mitigation that is built into New World,” Community Manager HardcoreHenry wrote on the game’s forums.
“We certainly agree that this is not acceptable behavior, especially when there are droves of individuals who are waiting patiently to get into a world. We have created a new solution to help us identify and action against bad faith AFK players.”
The post doesn’t detail what said solution is or how it works, but the developer has “every confidence that players who are playing New World normally will not experience any issues.” If, however, you’re caught trying to circumvent the game’s AFK timer, you’ll first be kicked to the main menu. Keep at it, and harsher penalties will follow.
New World’s latest AFK solution will be “rolled out over a period of time” and will hopefully discourage people from keeping others from hopping in.
Players will also be given a server transfer soon, to make up for the MMORPG’s launch woes. If you’re new to New World, our guides on changing item skins and respec costs should prove helpful.
