Those of you extensively following the Metro 2033 universe have probably been clamouring for a new game for quite some time. With new books always on the horizon, it's understandable to see the words as necessary new plot material for future games. But we've gone a long time without one. Until now.
Debuting alongside Microsoft's 'Xbox One X' system - formally 'Scorpio' - was this proposed new Metro title 'Metro Exodus'. Likely chosen for the highlight real due to its incredible visuals on the showfloor, being Microsoft's flagship showing this year hasn't excluded it from a wider release.
Metro Exodus, through the debut trailer alone, is looking like one of the prettiest - and spookiest - shooters of this year's E3. We're looking at more of the same in the Metro universe. According to the trailer description, we're out to flee Russia as the seasons roll around through this year-long run across a continent. Everything's gone to hell and it's looking pretty chilly outside. Monsters run amok, but when they're not chopping at your face, they're being scared off by your bullets.
Deep Silver Quickly Shot Down Rumors Suggesting A New Metro Title Would Release In 2017
With the vast majority of Xbox One titles now being 'Play Anywhere' games with a PC version available alongside it, Metro Exodus won't be locked to Microsoft's Windows 10 store like some other timed exclusives. Though we have no specific release date other than a tentative 2018 placeholder, we can already confirm it will arrive on Steam - and PlayStation 4. What we don't know, however, is whether these releases will happen simultaneously. Past 3rd party titles of this sort have been timed exclusives on the Windows 10 Store before slowing showing up on Steam.
Metro Exodus is planned for a 2018 release. Earlier leaks suggested a 2017 release before the game was even confirmed. That rumor, however, was swiftly shot in the foot to cool preconceptions. A good move, really.
