Titanfall was, by most accounts, pretty good. What it lacked was content. Good core shooting and movement was hamstrung by a lack of maps, modes, and features, while the nifty future war setting could barely be supported by the game’s limited, directionless campaign.
We already knew Respawn would be building out a single-player component, and recent reveals about increased staff size suggests that they’ll be building Titanfall 2 into a bigger, more fully-featured game.
In an interview with Develop, Respawn’s HR manager let the nitty gritty be known. “We had about 70 developers on the original Titanfall and we currently have about 90 working on the sequel.” That’s an impressive increase for what’s essentially a AAA indie studio, which will hopefully lead to a bigger, better sequel.
A new team of similar size is expected for Respawn’s as-yet unannounced original IP, said to be a third-person action adventure game headed up by God of War vet Stig Asmussen. Early reports seem to suggest that this new IP is using Unreal Engine 4, but we’ll hopefully learn more about it soon.
