Visceral’s upcoming Star Wars game is probably the most exciting of the myriad titles from the space opera epic in development, and that’s in large part due to the involvement of Uncharted writer Amy Hennig. During a panel at Star Wars Celebration, Hennig revealed a bit of the process behind writing a game set in the iconic universe, as well as a few tantalizing details about what form it might take.
Hennig said that the game will be an original story with new characters, locations, creatures, and technology, all which is a product of close collaboration with Lucasfilm. She and writing partner Todd Stashwick are working toward a tone of ”breezy urgency,” with high stakes but lively humor, similar to the Uncharted games and drawing directly from the pulp adventures both Star Wars and Uncharted draw from. It seems likely that the game will also feature multiple protagonists.

“The first thing that jumped out was these are always ensemble stories,” Hennig said. ”People would say there’s other characters in something like Indiana Jones, but they’re side characters. In Star Wars they’re co-protagonists, so if you think about the original trilogy it’s as much Leia’s, Han’s, and Vader’s story as it is Luke’s.” She added that “the challenge for us is to figure out how we enable that in gameplay so that the player really feels that experience, so that it’s not just part of the story but also the gameplay. That’s why you deconstruct and reconstruct.”
Few concrete details, but since the game’s not due out until 2018, that’s to be expected. We’ll be eagerly awaiting every detail we can squeeze out until then. (Thanks to Gamespot for images and quotes from the panel.)
