The Souls games are lengthy and difficult. You know this. I know this. And we both also know that if you put a challenge in front of enough gamers, they will conquer it ways you never expected. Dark Souls 3 came out one week ago in Japan, and most early reports are clocking the game at a minimum of 35 hours. Don’t tell that to the speedrunners, though.
A speedrunner by the name of Jung Ho Min has completed a run in 1:42:10, which is currently the world record. The same runner had posted the previous record of 1:56:10 just two days earlier. You can check out a video of the better run down below, but obviously be warned of spoilers.
I’m working on GameWatcher’s review of Dark Souls III, and I’m willing to say with some confidence that I won’t be getting it done in under two hours. In fact, it took me nearly three just to beat the first boss. Whether or not I’ll have it finished by the April 4th review embargo is up in the air, but I will absolutely have impressions and a full report on the PC version’s performance as soon as we can print them, and you should expect a full review in time for the April 12 release date.
