Outside of Valve’s own offerings, GTA V is now the most popular game on Steam, pushing ahead of Bethesda’s Skyrim less than a week after launching. It peaked yesterday at just over 300,000 concurrent players, only about 130,000 behind perennially popular shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Number one spot is (of course) reserved for Dota 2 at around 700,000 players, but Rockstar will be more than happy with those numbers.Skyrim had held the previous record of 280,000 concurrent users since its launch date back in 2011, so it’s notable if not entirely surprising to see a game that’s already been released twice (once on the Xbox 360 and PS3, and then again on next-gen consoles), push ahead.
To be honest though, as someone who played the game when it was first released, the brand new coat of paint it’s received, along with that excellent first-person camera, basically make me feel like I’m experiencing it for he first time. It’s got cats now and everything!
