Nightmarish steampunk cruise ship adventure Sunless Sea is almost ready for inspection – the atmospheric title from developer Failbetter Games is set to come out of Early Access on Steam on February 6.
The final release has been slowly built up over seven months in the beta development programme, and will launch with over 200,000 words of story text. That should keep you busy for a while.
“Our final release, PEARL, will complete the major storylines. Gameplay will be finessed, and we’ve added a couple of little flourishes that we think you’ll like,” Failbetter Games writes on its website.
They also mention that you’ll be able to get the game from DRM-free retail site GOG.com when it launches. Anyone who buys the title while it’s still in Early Access will get every piece of post-release DLC for free, which is a neat deal.
With a recently added ship to ship (or ship to monster) combat system and a bucketload of juicy story content, Sunless Sea is a dark roguelike journey down the gloomy canalways of Failbetter’s Victorian Gothic universe, last seen in browser-based adventure Fallen London. It’s a game in which you can go mad and devour your crew. I don’t think I need to say any more.
