As well as a nice little cinematic trailer, Konami has released another bumper gameplay video for Metal Gear Solid 5 at Gamescom.
This video takes a close look at Mother Base, your stronghold, which can be customised and upgraded in a variety of ways. Story events will happen here, but it’s also where you’ll organise your band of soldiers, research new gear, and generally mess about in a variety of interesting ways.
FOB is where things really get interesting, though. Once you’ve progressed to a certain point in MGS5, you’ll be able to start building Forward Operating Bases. These will allow you to take part in what Konami’s calling an MMO mode.
These FOBs can earn you new resources, but they can also be raided by other players in invasion that work a lot like those in Dark Souls. You’ll get a notification when an FOB is under attack, and you can either rely on the security measures you’ve set up to defend it, or head over there yourself.
It’s another fascinating glimpse at just what an ambitious, creative game MGS5 looks to be, but I’d avoid it if you want to go into the game fresh; it’s not that there are story spoilers, but there’s lots of cool stuff shown that you may want to discoverer for yourself when the game launches on September 1.
