Regretting the name you chose in the earliest days of Minecraft? Not to worry, a future patch will give players the ability to change their username. How exciting is that, eh?
“We do not yet support changing or editing usernames,” reads the recently updated Minecraft support page, “though this is planned for the future. We do not have a set release date for this feature.”
“Username changes will not be available before Minecraft version 1.8. This does not mean that 1.8 is the release date for the username change feature. Changing your username will be free, and limited to a certain number of changes in a given time period.”
Mojang developer Kristoffer Jelbring teased the name change options yesterday, and he’s indicated that the studio will be releasing more information on just what it entails in the near future. “All of your questions about the upcoming Minecraft name change feature will be answered soon. Stay tuned!”, he posted on Twitter.
We’ll keep an eye out for further information. As to what else will be including in patch 1.8, we’ll just have to wait and see. It can’t possibly get more thrilling than this, surely?
