Positech Games’ Cliff Harris has posted a new developer diary for Gratuitous Space Battles 2, the top-down space strategy that’s all about designing ships and fleets before unleashing them in battle.
This new video examines some of the newest additions to the upcoming sequel, including nebula clouds that ships ‘fight in rather than on top of’. Fighters can now operate in close formations.
Instead of flying off on their own maverick-style, fighters now come from launch tubes on ships and ‘pick a leader’ to follow to keep them in squadrons. Harris also describes more ‘support beams’ for ships which can help boost shields, engines, targeting etc. of other ships within the fleet.
Check out the 8 minute November developer diary for Gratuitous Space Battles 2 below. There’s still no release date yet from Cliff Harris, so a galactic invasion in 2015 is most likely.
