For all the predictions of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare not performing as well as Ghosts, the near-future shooter seems to be doing okay for itself.
It’s “the most streamed console game of 2014”, according to a Twitch.tv press release, and 75,000 unique streamers have played the game since it launched.
All that streaming has lead to the impressive count of 6 million unique viewers, watching a total of over 327 million minutes. Where do people find all this free time?
“Since the Call of Duty community on Twitch is extremely passionate, we are not surprised that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare set a milestone for most streamed console game of the year based on launch week comparisons,” said Ernest Le, director of publisher and developer partnerships at Twitch.
Sledgehammer boss Michael Condrey added; “The response from the global community to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has been incredible, with millions of fans playing the new era of Call of Duty and even more watching the action unfold live on Twitch in its first week in the wild.”
With the popularity of live streaming, how long before publishers start dishing out bonuses depending on viewing figures rather than a Metacritic score? I’m joking there. Mostly. The game’s first update was released earlier this week.
