The four horsemen ride again, wine turns to blood, and toads rain from the sky. Battletoads, if EA’s recent trademark filing is to be trusted. Could they be making an HD remake or follow-up to the ultra hard platformer.
The application was made last week, and follows on from the appearance of a Battletoads-related costume in Xbox game Kinect Sports Rivals.
“Microsoft often acquires various trademarks as part of its ongoing business strategy, but beyond that we have no comment,” is all Microsoft would say on the matter when quizzed by Polygon. Rare developed the original Battletoads game for the NES back in 1991, and the studio’s been on a wild ride since which has culminated in making fairly rubbish Kinect games like Sports Rivals for EA.
It’s eminently likely that Battletoads[/b[ will follow on in fellow Rare title Killer Instinct’s footsteps and get a remake. Could this be the least-anticipated remake in video game history? We’ll keep an eye out for further developments.
