Facepunch Studios, creator of Garry’s Mod and Rust, has a new game on the way, the stone age survival adventure Before. It features some adorable cartoon mammoths. Okay they’re being pushed over a cliff at spear-point, but still.
At The Game Awards 2014 in Las Vegas last week, Facepunch released a trailer featuring the first in-game footage.
It’s certainly got a nice look to it, with some beautiful, very simply drawn environments and a colourful world packed with prehistoric creatures. The idea is that you take control of a stone age tribe, guiding them through harsh winters and unforgiving landscapes.
You’ll need to gather food and materials for building shelters, fend off various opportunistic predators and bring up the next generation. How exactly players will manage all this isn’t exactly clear yet, but you can follow the game’s development over on Facepunch’s blog.
No word on when we’ll get our hands on Before, but judging by Facepunch’s success with Rust, it seems likely it’ll head to Steam Early Access at some point in the near future.
