Capcom has announced a release date for its upcoming HD remaster of the remake of the original Resident Evil. That’s not quite as confusing as it initially sounds.
You’ll be able to grab it from digital distributors on PC and consoles from January 20 in Europe, and it’ll set you back $19.99/€19.99/£15.99.
The original Resident Evil was released back in 1996, but the far superior Resident Evil: REmake was a Gamecube title that dropped in 2002. It re-jigged the game, updated the graphics, and added a whole layer of claustrophobic, atmospheric horror that the original lacked.
This new version provides HD 1080p resolutions, improved models, and even a more manoeuvrable control system where the characters actually move in the direction the analogue system is pointing – where’s the fun in that, though? You can thankfully choose the classic “tank” movement system if you prefer.
There’s a nice rundown of the changes in the Resident Evil HD Remaster over on the Capcom blog.
