The old system only gave ”two offensive styles” but they wanted ”at least four” as well as ”more diversity of builds” to choose from. New attributes grow with gear.
The four base attributes will rise in power as the player levels up but others depend on equipable gear and what traits are picked. Each profession has 5 traits available.
So that’s eight professions to pick from and then 5 traits each with 30 points to be invested. The studio is certainly on the right track for deeper character customisation this time around.
“Two of our four primary attributes – toughness and power – were serving double duty. Toughness improved heals, while power improved damage done by conditions. This essentially left us with two offensive styles: do more damage, or get more critical hits and react to their effects. That wasn’t quite good enough,” said designer Jon Peters.
“We wanted there to be at least four offensive play styles as well as more diversity of builds overall, so we added several new player attributes to mix things up.”
