According to Španěl, ”There’s no doubt that the thrilling Day Z mod currently drives Arma 2 Combined Operations sales on Steam. Sales have increased almost fivefold from how they were before Day Z’s Alpha release!”
”That said, we have always been proud to provide a PC exclusive type of game like Arma 2,” he added, ”with a strong emphasis on modding and the user community.”
The gameplay for the zombie mod is simple: players are dealing with hordes of zombies who can be killed with one shot. They are encouraged to team up and help each other survive and share resources. However, players can also betray and kill other players, and doing so will mark them as bandits, thus making them targets for non-outlaw players.
Day Z may still only be in alpha testing mode, but Španěl believes that the indie team Day Z Development are onto something and hints that it could be a standalone game at some point, stating, ”I personally find the combination of realistic Arma style gameplay and settings with survival zombie apocalypse so addictive that I believe it can stand as a gaming experience on its own.”
