Not bad for a PC action-RPG, eh? The US, Europe and Asia can now enjoy the return of the series. This launch is the ”culmination of many years of hard work” by Blizzard.
The huge pre-order figure counts copies given as part of the World of Warcraft Annual Pass promotion, which threw in a free copy of Diablo III to be downloaded via Battle.net.
”This launch is a culmination of many years of hard work by our development team, and many years of passionate, dedicated support from gamers around the world,” said Blizzard’s Mike Morhaime.
”We’re grateful for the enthusiasm of our players, and for the help of our beta testers in getting the game ready for release. Now that Diablo 3 is live, we hope everyone’s ready to have a hellishly good time slaying demons and collecting loot in Sanctuary.” Such was the demand in the US and AU that Battle.net servers crashed.
The developer had to launch more servers for the Americans and Aussies to cope with sheer demand.
