Tim Schafer’s Double Fine has launched a campaign on Kickstarter to help them seek funding for a new point-and-click adventure game from the minds behind classics such as Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango and many more.
The goal is to reach $400,000 by 13th March, 2012, but the good news is that the project has already received over $335,872 in just a few hours.
”First and foremost, Double Fine gets to make the game they want to make, promote it in whatever manner they deem appropriate, and release the finished product on their own terms.” said Double Fine founder Tim Schafer. ”Secondly, since they’re only accountable to themselves, there’s an unprecedented opportunity to show the public what game development of this caliber looks like from the inside.”
Anyone that backs the campaign will receive exclusive monthly video updates, giving you a real insight into the development process for the point-and-click graphic adventure game. A private online community will be set up to help backers submit any questions or to vote on decisions when the dev team can’t decide. Not only will backers get the chance to beta test the game, but will receive the completed version on launch too. All this for $15 or more.
The rewards don’t end there, if you donate more than $250 you’ll receive a “Double Fine Adventure” Poster autographed by Tim Schafer, Ron Gilbert, and the rest of the design team, and all previous reward tiers, which includes an original “Double Fine Adventure” poster (suitable for framing) exclusive to the campaign, special thanks in the game’s credits, a digital game soundtrack and more.
If you pledge $10,000 or more you’ll get an extremely rare chance to have lunch with Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert, a tour of the Double Fine offices, and all previous reward tiers. There’s more rewards if you wish to donate over the $10,000 mark, but you should head to the Kickstarter page to find out more.
[Update: The project is now fully funded.]
