Hollywood periodical Variety has revealed that the troubled World of Warcraft film production, which director Sam Raimi had abandoned a month ago, has hired a new screenwriter, Charles Leavitt.
Leavitt is best known for writing such films as Blood Diamond, The Mighty and K-PAX, and has a new film coming this Fall, The Seventh Son.
Sam Raimi’s original choice to author the screenplay was Robert Rodat, who at the time was best known for writing Saving Private Ryan. Rodat is currently the writer for the television series Falling Skies and penned the sequel Thor: The Dark World.
The troubled film has been in development hell since 2008. With Raimi out, the production still has not attached a director.
Raimi’s original concept? Nah.
