As a workaround for the time being the studio has included the day one Troll DLC as part of patch 1.1, which is finally available. It’s now also ”DRM free!”
Originally only the GOG.com version of The Witcher 2 was intended to carry no DRM whatsoever but CD Projekt has decided to strip it out for all regions. The game’s launcher has been declared not fit for purpose by the studio as they work around it for downloads.
They created a stand-alone patch with the Troll DLC a part of it. ”This is mainly due to the fact that game launcher in version 1.0 is not yet stable enough. Plus the server infrastructure provided by an external company is not quite bullet proof,” informed CD Projekt.
They’ll be setting up their own internal team to handle game registration woes too. Steam users have had a nasty shock as the entire game began re-downloading as part of this 1.1 update, which is around 9GB. The original size through Steam was over 16GB.
”Currently the only problem remaining is with the Language Packs. We will provide you with a solution for this issue as soon as possible. Registration through the Launcher will be fixed in the upcoming days, and our goal is to have it work perfectly in patch 1.2.”
Have you been having technical trouble with The Witcher 2? It released exclusively on PC last week to rave reviews from critics. Many will be happy DRM has been abolished.
