Back at Resi Evil 5’s E3 debut it was revealed it could have been an Xbox 360 timed exclusive, but the deal never materialised. RE6 is a ‘full reboot’.
The reports seem to be coming from Capcom themselves who are imminently deciding whether to cash a Sony cheque for some exclusive launch time with the PlayStation 3, which could leave it without an Xbox 360 or PC release for up to a year.
This alleged move does somewhat contradict what Sony’s Scott McCarthy recently in that they prefer ”to lock up exclusive parts of games,” and not entire releases.
”When you make a title exclusive, you limit its promotional power; we don’t want to do that. We want games to be as big as possible - it’s great for the industry,” he added.
For now it’s just rumour. Microsoft haven’t been shy about getting Xbox 360 exclusive deals like the original Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto IV’s DLC episodes and Call of Duty map packs. Perhaps Sony feel the gamble is right for a ‘fully rebooted’ Resident Evil?
