He believes Kinect’s launch drew in more a ”hardcore audience than was anticipated” by Microsoft, who are now playing catch up. How can it be done?
”I think that what the stats show with respect to the early launch of Kinect is that it appealed probably to a more hardcore audience than was anticipated by Microsoft, and that’s because hardcore gamers are early adopters,” said Fischbach.
”And now the question is, if you listen to what Microsoft is doing, is to how do we make Kinect work in the Hardcore Gaming Environment? How do we add value and how do we add a play mechanic that works with Call of Duty and makes it fun to play. Or Assassin’s Creed?”
Microsoft swears blind that Kinect is heading towards more ‘hardcore waters’ and was never about just catering to the casual or family audience. The road map for exactly how Kinect can prove itself hardcore friendly is uncertain beyond UI navigation or commands.
Can motion platforms ever achieve ‘hardcore’ stamps of approval?
