Champions Online is the latest MMO to switch from a subscription-based payment schedule to a free-to-play model, and have announced that the conversion will happen on January 25.
Atari and Cryptic made the announcement today, calling the free-to-play version Champions Online: Free For All. Players can purchase “premium content” much like Dungeons & Dragons Online, which includes Adventure Packs, items, powers and costume pieces. This content can be bought a la carte inside the game’s C-Store.
Gold members will get all of the premium content for free at the current $14.99 per month subscription. Players can find out more about the free-to-play version at the game’s official website here.
