Rubin added that Infinity ”root for everybody,” despite what EA PR spouts. The studio has ”much respect for everyone” at DICE, and ”I think they feel the same way with us.”
The whole launch event is ”so much sweeter” after all the turmoil Infinity Ward endured with Jason West and Vince Zampella getting fired, and over 40 staff leaving the studio.
Infinity Ward paired with Sledgehammer Games to develop Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. EA has been firing off ‘smack talk’ about the Call of Duty franchise for some time now, promising that Battlefield from DICE will essentially mark ‘the beginning of the end’ to Activision’s FPS reign.
”Honestly, it’s the fans you want to listen to,” said Infinity’s Mark Rubin. ”They’re gamers, they’re going to play both games, both games are great. Much respect for everyone involved on the DICE side and I think they feel the same way with us. We’re friends with them. It’s not what they portray on the EA side.”
The dev has been to hell and back with their mass staff exodus: ”That’s what makes this whole event so much sweeter,” he said. ”We really did struggle through a very difficult time, we powered through it, we got a lot of great help from the Sledgehammer guys to be here not only with a finished game, but a game we feel is the best we’ve made yet.”
