Dubbed the ‘WAVI Xtion’, it will be retailing this Q2 2011 with worldwide coverage rolled out in steps. They’re releasing a development tools suite.
Initially the ‘WAVI Xtion’ from ASUS will be for manipulating PC media content like pictures, movies, TV shows and music but with the development tools anything is possible such as videogaming. It will ”revolutionise users’ recreational lives” claims ASUS.
The Xtion PRO suite of tools will be launched next month before the hardware. Could this bunch of software be used with those open Kinect drivers for PCs?
”ASUS combines its wireless cross-room solution with PrimeSense’s simple, intuitive, gesture-based control technology to allow users to enjoy and share PC content on TV with gestures. WAVI Xtion is the unprecedented living room experience that will revolutionise users’ recreational lives,” said ASUS general manager Kent Chien.
We all knew a gesture-based interface for PC was going to happen one day, especially after Kinect was unveiled for the Xbox 360. It’s unlikely anyone expected ASUS to be leading the charge for desktop users; PrimeSense’s involvement will boost confidence.
How does the ‘WAVI Xtion’ sound to you, PC user?
