They allege the title is over $300m in development, and they’re ”most proud” of the huge voice-over work. The MMO is ”a joke,” with EA and Lucas ‘panicked’.
The ex-EA dev was an artist at Warhammer Online developer Mythic, to which goes their primary beef in how the studio was handled and their Warhammer MMO. In the end they turn their scorn toward BioWare’s ambitious Star Wars The Old Republic.
BioWare has ”spent more money making the Old Republic than James Cameron spent on Avatar. Shit you not. More than $ 300 million! Can you believe that?” said EA Louse. One of their complaints was not enough resources have been given to Warhammer.
”And you know what they’re most proud of? This is the kicker. They are most proud of the sound. No seriously. Something like a 20Gig installation, and most of it is voiceover work. That’s the best they have. The rest of the game is a joke.”
”EA knows it and so does George Lucas, they’re panicking , and so most of Mythic has already been cannibalized to work in Austin on it because they can’t keep pushing back launch,” they continued.
”Old Republic will be one of the greatest failures in the history of MMOs from EA. Probably at the level of the Sims Online. We all know it too ……” Certainly none of this can be taken objectively as this anonymous blogger admits they’re ”ranting”.
While EA don’t ”respond to rumors or anonymous blogs,” David Jaffe was more than happy to address this anonymous former EA staffer on his own blog and revealed his dealings with individuals who staunchly opposed God of War’s direction at the time.
”Knowing nothing about the company, game, or people, I’m in no position to comment on how true and valid all this is vs. how much it’s just a tantrum from someone who felt they should have been listened to but was not,” posted Jaffe.
”What the f#ck is it about making games where it brings out the worst, most immature, most obnoxious sides of certain types of people on a team? Everyone thinks they always know better than the people in charge.”
”On God of War 1 I still remember a small group of hard core gamers on the team that felt we were making the game ‘wrong’ because there was not all this deep, deep, Street Fighter 2/Tekken style depth to the combat system,” continued the Eat, Sleep, Play boss.
”“Jaffe’s out of touch!” “Jaffe doesn’t ‘get it!’“…never did it occur to them that we were going for something else…even tho I explained this to them over and over!”
Jaffe summed up his feelings on the EA Louse blogging: ”Just reads as sour grapes to me and a whole lot of ego bullshit ‘I know best and you shoulda listened to me! I’m a man of the people! Fuck the suits!’ cliche bullshit.”
The real question… is SWTOR $300m?
