They hope it responds ”a lot better” on PC out of the box, whereas the first game had control ‘jitters’. It’s still best played ”with a gamepad.”
”Yeah - we’ve heard that feedback,” Papoutsis told CVG. PC gamers of Dead Space complained that controls through keyboard and mouse felt juddery in their response, but the team are working to squish those troubles - a gamepad is still preferable.
”That’s something we’re focused on trying to improve. Not to sound snarky, but with Dead Space, honestly, the way we’re playing it is with a gamepad. Even if you’re a PC guy - if you have one - stick it in your PC and play the game with that.” Gamepad FTW!
Yes a number of titles these days favour gamepads over the keyboard and mouse, mainly down to their console-first development philosophy. You just try and assassinate Templar Knights with Altair or Ezio on PC with a keyboard… it ain’t pretty.
”That’s the thing when we’re working on it that we have every day and we have readily available. But this time out we have people dedicated on working to improve the controls for PC players,” continued Visceral’s Papoutsis.
”Out of the box, we’re hopeful the PC version this time will respond a lot better and that people will be a lot more comfortable and happier with the controls. That is feedback we’ve heard and we’re certainly trying to address it.”
Dead Space 2 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC next year.
