The art team, animators, programmers and designers were hit too. This is just resource ‘realignment’ says the studio, to make it a lean machine.
”I can confirm that Firaxis has realigned its development resources in order to streamline its development process, reduce costs and maximize the overall performance the studio,” said 2K’s Markus Wilding, reports VG247.
“This will result in the elimination of approximately 20 positions. These reductions will not impact Firaxis’ ability to create and deliver AAA titles, including its forthcoming Sid Meier’s Civilization V and Sid Meier’s Civilization Network for Facebook.”
Snipping staff numbers after a launch is common place in the videogames industry, like APB’s Realtime Worlds has recently done, but giving a load the boot before a major release? Meier and co are either very confident all is super well or Firaxis is in trouble.
Civilization V releases exclusively on PC September 21st. Looking forward to it?
