It’s unclear if the 23 re-hired staff to work on MyWorld will be retained, or if the US firm just bought the IP and game build. MMO APB is still on sale.
Apparently the project isn’t far from reaching the final steps in its development and so it could mean the Dundee-based developers will be kept on to at least finish MyWorld. Realtime Worlds’ MMO APB, which cost in excess of $100m, is still looking for buyers.
Sales of the newly launched MMO have been lacklustre for the studio and haven’t dented the enormous investment they put into it. The game apparently has 130k registered users who play APB 4 hours a day on average. There’s at least good news for MyWorld.
“As a smaller entity MyWorld is attracting considerable interest from potential buyers and 23 members of the team who had been working on the project clearly add value to it as a standalone business,” said joint administrator Ken Pattullo.
