The studio hates strict DRM and called the Namco man’s comments ”a private opinion.” No decision ”is decided yet” on The Witcher 2’s copy protection.
”Our distributors commented the Ubisoft-like DRM security solutions, and we’re receiving a massive feedback about applying such in The Witcher 2,” posted CD Projekt RED on their Facebook page, reports Shacknews.
”There’s nothing to worry about, as nothing is decided yet. And still, it’s a private opinion. You know Cd Projekt RED’s opinion about DRM, right? ;-)” CD Projekt operate PC site Good Old Games which sells classic titles, made compatible for the latest Windows.
All of these GOG releases are entirely DRM-free with unlimited downloads.
”We rather believe that it is better to encourage people to buy the original game by giving them exceptional quality and additional values than trying to punish piracy,” the studio has told GameCyte in the past. Blizzard recently echoed this same sentiment.
Recently a fan posted his concern about an active Internet system being put in place for The Witcher 2 on PC with CD Projekt RED replying ”there’s no reason to worry about that in The Witcher 2.” Namco will distribute the game in Europe and Asia, Atari the US.
There are console plans for The Witcher 2 but the developer says ”we are focusing on the PC version at this time. At some point we’ll probably talk about console development, but that time isn’t now.” It’s due between Jan 1st and March 31st, 2011.
