The problem, which deletes any Gamerscore and achievements the player has accumulated, stems heavily from the Windows Live Messenger accounts that are linked with an individual’s tag. These accounts are deleted after an inactive period of thirty days, taking any achievement points with it.
Microsoft has confirmed the irreversible problem by stating, ”the only alternative is to set up a new Gamertag with your preferred email address.”
The company added there was no way around the problem, and that achievement points cannot be transferred from one account to another, even though users will have an up-to-date and accurate Gamertag sat on their system.
GamesIndustry.biz confirmed the problem exists, and even though it doesn’t affect Silver members playing offline, they won’t be able to sign up for a Gold membership; the service that draws many to the console in the first place.
Microsoft is currently investigating the problem, although it is understood that there is little way to get round the virtual crisis.
