It seems there are discrepancies in the pricing of games in Microsoft’s new ‘Games on Demand’ service. Kotaku has learned that each region is apparently responsible for its own pricing, which would explain why countries like Australia can get away with chagrining up to 6000 MS points ($99.99) for some games, way above the 1600 – 2400 estimates that Microsoft had hoped for.
A thread on the NeoGAF forums has collated the different price ranges, with the European countries sticking to the 2400, but charging it across the board, even for games that don’t deserve it or are cheaper elsewhere. The US is sticking towards a lower price range, which some feel may not be enough.
”No one retailer has the lowest pricing for every product, and our program is about giving people 24 /7 convenience and selection when shopping for Xbox 360 games,” Xbox Australia told Kotaku in a statement.
The Games on Demand service is Microsoft’s push into serious digital distribution territory, with many classic 360 titles going up for download. But with pricing an issue, are looking at some sort of geographical lottery?
